and the kicker himself, but for the other
eight, or the whole team, it is considered
much lighter work.
It is better to allow the opposing team
to have the ball on their own twenty-five-
yard line than to have it yourself on your
own twenty-five-yard line. It is almost
impossible, when the teams are anywhere
nearly equally matched, to rush the ball
from goal to goal without relinquishing it.
One team starting from its own twenty-
five-yard line may rush the ball to cen¬
tre of the field, or to its opponents' forty-
yard-line. There it is more than likely
to lose it. The defensive team is getting
stronger all the time, and the offensive one
weaker. It uses up all its ammunition,
its strength, and power without having
come within scoring distance. The rush¬
ing game was perhaps a very brilliant one,
but has failed to realize auything on the
