The reader will note here that it will
be impossible for a player of one position
to write exhaustively upon all, and his
apology for making the attempt is that
this is a book for beginners only.
1. The End. — zV\\e End should be
chosen for quickness, agility, swiftness,
speed, endurance and good judgment.
The first three qualifications are neces¬
sary to enable him to avoid, break up, and
worm his way into, through, or around
the interference, tackle into its very
midst, or take advantage of occasional
fumbles. Speed and endurance are indis¬
pensable in enabling him to cover his ter¬
ritory and to race up and down the field
