The
above
tune
appeared
in
the
first
"
Sacred
Harp
"
that
was
published
by
B.
F.
White,
in
1844,
and
has
remained
practically
the
same
in
various
revisions
from
1844
to
1870.
It
is
a
sweet,
old
melody,
and
the
words
are
cherished
by
many
of
the
older
people,
as
well
as
those
that
like
the
old-time
sacred
music.
Professor
White
either
composed
the
words,
as
well
as
the
chorus
to
this
tune,
or
so
changed
them
that
no
trace
can
be
found
of
them
except
in
other
books
that
have
been
printed
and
published
since
the
composing
of
the
tune
by
Mr.
White.
