The
poetry

Samuel
Stennett
in
1778.
He
was
an
English
Baptist
minister,
and
was
the
son
of
Rev.
Joseph
Stennett,
born
1727;
died
1795.
He
composed
a
number
of
hymns.
The
four
generations
of
Stennetts
were
noted
for
their
ability
and
piety,
Several
of
the
Stennetts
hymns
are
in
this
volume,
one
noted
hymn
of
his
being,
"On
Jordan's
Stormy
Banks
I
Stand.
We
have
been
after,
considerable
search,
unable
to
find
the
author
of
"Southwell."
It
is
published
in
the
Presbyterian
Psalmist,
a
song
book
nearly
one
hundred
years
old.
