Hall
was
born
in
Massachusetts
in
1785.
He
was
a
farmer,
and
manufactured
straw
bonnets,
kept
a
hotel
and
taught
a
singing
school.
Music
was
only
an
avoca-
tion,
however,
he
was
an
artist
in
his
way.
He
composed
a
number
of
tunes.
From
the
best
information
that
can
be
had,
he
was
almost
self-taught
in
music.
Some
of
his
tunes
have
come
down
through
all
the
different
note
books,
among
them,
"Morming
Glory,"
"Restoration,"
"Hosanna,"
"Harmony,"
"Zion"
"Devo-
tion,"
and
a
number
of
others.
He
died
1827.
This
tune
has
appeared
in
The
Sacred
Harp
since
1844.
