From
the
best
information
we
can
get,
this
tune
was
named
in
honor
of
the
celebrated
poet,
William
Cowper.
The
words
were
undoubtedly
composed
by
him.
They
are
so
much
in
accord
with
the
trend
of
the
hymns
composed
by
this
great
man,
we
give
him
credit
for
same.
We,
however,
have
not
been
able
to
find
this
poem
in
any
of
the
Hymnologies,
but
have
added
another
verse
to
it.

history
